The history of the area that's now known as Fayetteville has seen human life for at least the last 12,000 years. They got their first colonial settlement in the early 1700s along Cape Fear River, bringing with it the merchant trade. This was the start of modern industry served the district until the Revolutionary War. This brought a variety of different people and business owners to the area, from builders to those making force gauges, and there was not another dominant industry until the 20th century.

The city saw its greatest development after World War II when everything from shopping complexes to new subdivisions started popping up all over. This brought Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base into the city limits and these two locations remain as some of the city's top employers. In the last few years people have pulled out the construction supplies and hand garden tools and there has been a major revitalization effort in the downtown core than most recently brought Fayetteville Festival Park. This is in an effort to make this more than just a military town.

Outside of the military the largest industries are healthcare, education, and hospitality. In all of these areas their percentage of people working in these professions is more than double what it is on average in the rest of the state. This is the largest industry for men in the area. Women are working in education, healthcare and public administration the most.

In terms of jobs within these industries it is the most common to work in sales, as a teacher, or as a manager of some kind. There are also several people working in production plants, maintenance and doing office work. This means that if your resume if full of positions working with strapping solutions for the metal industry or want to get started in the workplace in an entry-level position there are likely some jobs out there for you in the Fayetteville area.

But ever though there are all sorts of industries within the city limits, this is still mostly a military town. A couple of years ago the city was even declared the "World's First Sanctuary for Military Families." The income of the entire region has gone up significantly over the last five years thanks to so many soldiers receiving high-risk bonuses in their pay while on combat missions throughout the world. Fayetteville's entire history as a city has always been connected to the military and this doesn't look like it will change in the near future. Pope Air Force Base is currently being transferred over to the Army and will now be known as Pope Army Air Field. This could be an opportunity for new businesses that make everything from sheet lead to military clothing.
